Redefining 'Natural' in Skincare

Harvesting elderflowers by hand - a crucial step in Carol Priest's genuine natural skincare process.

Every day, we are exposed to numerous chemicals, many of which are harmful for our skin and the environment. Often these chemicals are found in the products we use on our skin daily - from soaps and shampoos to lotions and cream. Go and have a look at your bathroom or your powder room. You'll see most of your products claiming that they are 'natural', 'organic', 'containing #% natural/organic ingredients', or even incorporate those terms in their product names.  However, a closer inspection often reveals a different story.

The use of terms 'natural' and 'organic' is not strictly regulated in personal care industry. A number of companies purchase and use various natural and organic ingredients in their products and market the brand as 'natural', though not always containing only natural ingredients.

Most commercial products contain at least some synthetic components, diluting the essence of what 'natural' truly means. In order to create a genuine natural formulation, plant-derived bioactive compounds (e.g., trending ingredients such as Niacinamide or Retinol are not plant-derived) should be combined with plant-derived emulsifiers, surfactants, humectants, pigments, preservatives, and other ingredients. However, those plant-derived compounds are often adulterated with synthetic or toxic intermediates as it is very costly to go 100% natural and plant-based.

Therefore, if you're looking for a genuine natural products, here are couple tips from us:

  • Read Full Ingredient Lists: Understand exactly what's in the product; look for both active and inactive components.
  • Seek Natural/Organic Certification Marks: Ensure the product meets standards for organic or natural ingredients, indicating safer, purer formulations.

However, at Carol Priest, we prioritise the purity and naturalness of every single ingredient we use. We also care about how we source the ingredients. We follow a quality over quantity concept where we choose top quality, analytically tested ingredients from a reliable, verified supplier. We undertake audit every year from the third party organic certifier to ensure not only our ingredient sourcing and formulation but also our manufacturing process follow the organic integrity.

'Natural' for us is not just a label; it's a practice ingrained in our entire production process. All our products are made from natural ingredients only, free from synthetic ingredients. To ensure the highest quality, each Carol Priest product is handcrafted in small batches, ensuring attention to detail and preservation of natural integrity.

Those who try our products will immediately feel the difference of genuine natural formulation. We represent the pinnacle of personal care products that naturally nurture and rejuvenate your skin and hair.
